Henter-Joyce DECtalk Express Drivers (DTE)
Last Modified: 6/12/97

The Following documentation is a guide to using
Henter-Joyce's Dectalk Express Drivers. It is broken down
into the following sections:

1. When to use DTE
2. How to install DTE
3. Technical Support

1. When to Use DTE
DTE cannot be used in conjunction with Digital's Dectalk
software (dt_drive). If you are using dt_drive for any
other applications (such as Open Book), you should also
use dt_drive for JAWS for Windows. In addition, if you
are using dt_driv for a DOS screen reading application,
you should not use DTE. Conflicts arise when both DTE
and dt_driv try to access the Dectalk Express.

DTE should be used if you are experiencing com port
interference while using Windows and you are not using
dt_driv in any other instances. Reports indicate that
DTE does perform as well or better that dt_driv. If,
then the performance of dt_driv is not satisfactory on
account of certain system limitations, DTE may provide a
    reasonable solution.

2. How to install DTE
During the JAWS for Windows installation select DTE from
the synthesizer selection list box. You will then be
asked to indicate on which com port the Dectalk Express
    is connected.

If you need to change the com port setting after
installing JFW with DTE, edit SSIL.INI in your Windows
directory and changed the port line appropriately.
